Top Questions About de Leon Systema

Everything you need to know about our professional self-defense training programs

1
Can I try it before I pay anything?
Yes! Your first class is completely free. Come see what we're about and decide if it's a good fit for you.
2
How is this different from karate or other martial arts?
Traditional martial arts focus on ancient forms and competitions. We focus on modern confidence and real-world capability. You'll develop strength, resilience, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Our Filipino instructor brings 30+ years of authentic knowledge to teach practical skills that actually work when life gets challenging. It's confidence-building protection, not performance art.
3
Will this actually help me defend myself, or is it just exercise?
In self-defense courses they teach you 'Run, Hide, Fight' and workshops teach short classes. We teach you a complete 6-level system to build real confidence. This is real defense training. You'll learn to protect yourself AND get in better shape. We train your mind and body so you're ready if something bad happens.
4
I've never done this before. Will I feel lost or embarrassed?
Not at all! Everyone starts as a beginner, or if you have done martial arts or self-defense before, we can work with your level. We teach you step-by-step and never make anyone feel bad. You'll fit right in from day one.
5
What actually happens in class?
You warm up, learn new defense moves, practice with a partner safely, and end with cool down and reflection on what we learned. Every class builds on the foundation and everyone feels included.
6
How tough is "intensive" training?
It's not a simple self-defense workshop - you build real skills for real world while getting stronger, more confident and fit. Intensive also means cardio and you'll sweat! It means we take it seriously. You work at your own pace. If you need to go slower or take breaks, that's totally fine. The goal is getting stronger, not suffering.
7
What does the 6-level system mean?
It doesn't start easy - it starts with foundations, then you elevate to learn traditional Filipino blade work like the curved karambit knife, building to advanced mastery levels. Each level teaches real world skills, not just dojo techniques or sport moves. It's like levels in a video game - you begin at Civilian level, then move up to Operator, Tactician, and more.
8
Do you train with self-defense tools?
Yes — but safely and progressively. We start with safe trainer tools (like karambit trainer (no blade) or rubber knife) inspired by Filipino martial arts to build awareness, control, and real-world application. No prior experience is needed, and everything is taught step-by-step with safety as the top priority.
9
Is training in a facility different from a traditional martial arts school?
Yes. Our training facility provides a focused, private setting designed for serious training. It is not a commercial gym or open public space. This allows us to maintain discipline, safety, and individualized attention in every session.
10
What if these class times don't work for me?
Current training sessions are held Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. As enrollment grows, additional class times may be added. Contact us to discuss your availability.
11
Why does it cost $165 a month?
This is professional, structured training in a focused small-group setting. Each 90-minute session provides expert instruction, personalized coaching, and real-world skill development that large commercial programs cannot offer. If you need additional support, the instructor may work with you by appointment based on availability. Just ask.
